It's Alive - Frankenhooker rises from the dead!

This week’s sleazfestt is a gritty love story fresh from the 90’s. Frankenhooker (1990) is a horror comedy film directed by Frank Henenlotter. As the name suggests, the movie is a loose adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic novel "Frankenstein," with a humorous and campy twist.

Patty Mullen stars as Frankenhooker in the film of the same name.

This film has been trending lately as it draws a lot of comparisons to Emma Stone’s most recent flick, Poor Things (2023). The film tells the story Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant but mad scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter. Sluthy internet junkies have even pulled screenshots comparing the facial expressions of Stone’s character Bella, and Frankenhooker’s leading lady Patty Mullen.

James Lorinz plays Jeffery Franken, in Frankenhooker

Frankenhooker revolves around Jeffrey Franken, played by James Lorinz, a medical school dropout who attempts to resurrect his deceased fiancée, Elizabeth, after a tragic lawnmower accident. To bring Elizabeth back to life, Jeffrey decides to use various body parts from prostitutes. He constructs a new body for her, combining the parts of different women, resulting in a bizarre and comedic take on the Frankenstein tale.

"Frankenhooker" has gained a cult following over the years due to its outrageous premise and Henenlotter's distinctive directorial style. His films often feature unconventional and offbeat premises, as well as a dark sense of humor. He is known for embracing practical effects and makeup to create memorable and grotesque scenes in his movies. His work often explores taboo subjects and fringe elements, contributing to the cult appeal of his films. In addition to Frankenhooker, he is also best known for Basket Case (1982) and Brain Damage (1988).

Frankenhooker is only interested in work and money

This is such an epically horrible film. My favorite is once reanimated; Frankenhooker immediately begins hustling for dates and money. It’s almost as funny as how he obtains the various body parts. Will Jeffery and Elizabeth be able to find true love? Will Jeffery finally graduate med school?
